Google Analytics

We need to continuously improve the experience of our users with our website. Insights from analytics data enable us to implement the corresponding changes like positioning of content.

If you consent, we install cookies related to Google Analytics which keep track of your browsing activity on the website. As part of this process we may record the following information for aggregate and anonymous reports:

  • date and time of your visit to each page of our website
  • time you spent on each page

Your device’s IP address will not be recorded since we use IP Anonymization in the tracking code. In this regard, collected information is completely anonymous and does not allow your identification.

Email contact

By contacting us through email or a contact form, you provide us with your email address and name. This data provided is processed only to respond to your inquiry. The content of the correspondence may be archived.

 

Newsletter

By subscribing to the emstory newsletter, you provide us with your name and email address. We process this data in order to send you the newsletter.

The data provided in the newsletter subscription form will be stored in the mailing system database (MailChimp) for the duration of the website activity, unless you decide not to receive the newsletter which will result in deleting the data from the database.

The subscription to the newsletter involves a Double-Opt-In process by which you express your consent.

 

What information do we collect without your consent?

 

Wordfence Security

It is our legitimate interest to properly ensure the security of our website.

When you visit our website we share your IP address with the approved third-party service Wordfence Security without obtaining your explicit consent. This is necessary in order to enable our Firewall to block malicious requests from attackers. Wordfence Security is compliant with the GDPR and we have signed a Data Processing Agreement with them.

 

Do we share your information with third parties?

Yes. Like stated above, we share some personal information with third parties in order to provide you with certain features. In these cases, we have signed a Data Processing Agreement with the corresponding third party service, based on GDPR Article 28.

  • Google: Anonymous tracking data for Google Analytics
  • Wordfence Security: Transmission of IP address for blocking malicious requests
  • MailChimp: Stores email addresses for providing our users with our newsletter

Transfer to countries outside the European Union

Your information may also be processed, accessed, or stored in countries outside the European Union (EU) based on your consent or our legitimate interest of providing services to you.

The transfer is limited to countries that comply to specific conditions stated in GDPR Article 44 et seq.. For instance, the USA guarantee compliancy in that regard via the Privacy-Shield-Treaty.

 

Where is my personal data stored?

We do not store any personal data on our website. Like explained above, the third party services we use store some personal data about you.

 

How long do we store personal data?

Your personal data is stored as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected.

 

How do we protect your information?

The data transfer between your browser and our website is encrypted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. You can see this by looking for a lock icon in the address bar and looking for “https” at the beginning of the address of the web page.

The third party services with whom we share your information protect your information in accordance with their own data protection policies.

 

Social Media Share Buttons

Blogs on our Website can be shared on social media networks like Facebook, Twitter and Google+. We use the WordPress plugin Shariff Wrapper to do this in a way that complies with the GDPR. A connection with the social media networks is only established when you click on the corresponding share button. Data is not automatically transferred just by viewing a page.

When you actively use the share buttons, personal information is transferred to the respective social networks and stored. This information may include: IP addresses, stored cookies, log-ins to the social networks, web page visited, time of visit.

 

Cookies

Cookies are small files that a site transfers to your end device (e.g. computer, tablet, smartphone)  through your web browser if you allow that. They are considered personal information, because they can be coordinated across websites to create a profile of a particular user’s activities. You can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies. You do this through your browser settings. Please look at your browser’s Help Menu to learn the correct way to modify cookies on your specific browser.

 

How do we use cookies?

When you visit the website for the first time, you are shown a message about the use of cookies. All cookies are turned off initially and require your consent (Opt-In) before they are activated. For providing this obligatory functionality we use the WordPress Plugin Borlabs Cookie which itself installs a cookie called borlabsCookie that is required for the plugin to work.

Server logs

Use of the website involves sending queries to the server on which the website is hosted. Each query sent to the server is stored in server logs. Logs include User’s IP address, server date and time, browser and operating system information. Logs are saved and stored on the server. Data stored in the server logs is not associated with specific entities using the website and is not used by the Administrator to identify any User. Server logs are stored solely for the purposes of administration of the website. Their content is not revealed to any other entity beside persons authorized to administer the server.

You have the following rights concerning our processing of your personal data:

  • request rectification of inaccurate personal data (GDPR Article 16)

Personal data sent via Facebook can be viewed. This includes the first and last name, the e-mail address and the telephone number – if these are sent by the user. All transmitted data is stored and processed by Facebook, so that a connection to the respective user profile is possible and Facebook can use the data for its own advertising purposes, in accordance with Facebook’s data usage policy (https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/). The data may enable Facebook and its partners to place advertisements on and off Facebook.
